Leica Mini M (front) and Leica X2 (back)My previous expectations that the Leica Mini M teaser would ultimate be a true “mini” Lecia M with a interchangeable lens mount and an APS-C sensor appear to have been a bit too lofty.
A leak of the Leica Mini M (still apparently not the true model name) reveals that it will be a zoom lens alternative to the Leica X2. While the X2 features a 24mm f/2.8 lens, the upcoming Mini M will sport a much slower 18-46mm f/3.5-6.4 lens (28-70mm equivalent).
The camera will feature a 16.1MP APS-C sensor, which is the same resolution of the X2. Additionally, the Mini M will capture HD video and can use an external viewfinder. Leica will ship the camera with a copy of Lightroom for processing raw files from the Mini M.
Pricing is expected to be €2,450, which converts to more than $3,000 USD. The Leica X2 currently runs around $2,000 USD, so it’s hard to imagine the Leica Mini M with a very slow zoom lens at $1,000 more than the X2.
