G-Tech unveiled a new G-Drive Mini at CES 2013. I’m a big fan of the old G-Drive Mini units that sport dual FireWire 800 connections. The new G-Drive Mini units keep the dual FW800 ports, but also add a USB 3.0 connection and a 1TB 7200RPM hard drive (up from 750GB).
I managed about 75MB/s write speed and 80MB/s read speed on the older drives with FW800; however, G-Tech is touting 140MB/s performance over USB 3.0 with the new 7200RPM HGST Travelstar drive inside.
The former G-Drive Mini was a great bus-powered solution for photo and video editing on the go, so the increased performance on the new drive should be all the better for media pros working remotely.
The new G-Drive Mini 1TB USB 3.0 drives retail for $199.95 and are now shipping. Check them out here at B&H Photo.Related posts:
