Canon’s 1D C Firmware Update Hits America With More Details; 1D X Firmware Too!

Yesterday, we reported on the new Canon 1D C firmware update that was being released in Europe. It allowed the capture of 25p 4K video as well as fixed a couple of other problems. Information on the new firmware was given today in a product advisory from Canon USA under the 1D C listing. According to them, “Firmware Version 1.2.0 is for cameras running either firmware version 1.0.2 or 1.1.9. If the camera’s firmware is already version 1.2.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.” This could mean that cameras are shipping with the new firmware already in place. Once again, Canon’s support team will be the ones doing the firmware update.

The previous firmware update apparently addressed almost all of the previous concerns listed on the advisory page.

In the comments and on our Facebook page yesterday, we had lots of wary Canon users stating that the company doesn’t want to firmware getting into the hands of 1D X users to turn their cameras into 1D C‘s–the inference for this came from the fact that Canon stated that the cameras are the exact same with some minor differences.
