Sony Announces Three New A-Mount Lenses; 50mm F1.4 for $1,499.99

Sony is showing off two full-frame sensor lenses for the Sony A-mount. On the way are the 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM II telephoto zoom lens and a Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f1.4 ZA SSM lens. Both of these lenses feature Sony’s Super Sonic Wave Motor intended for quiet and speedy autofocus and other performance improvements. For APS-C shooters, the DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II is coming to replace Sony’s older version of the same glass but with both external and internal redesigns.


The 70-400mm G SSM II lens is the newer version of Sony’s 70-400mm glass. Accompanying the “II” are upgrades to the lens’s optics and autofocus, which Sony claims to be four times faster than before. On the lens itself is Sony’s Nano Anti-Reflective coating which is intended to reduce flare and ghosting. Sony plans to begin availability sometime mid-July for $2999.99.


The previously announced Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZA SSM lens is the latest prime lens for the A-mount by Carl Zeiss. It features the same SSM focusing for smooth and quiet autofocusing and also a rear-focusing system so all of the focusing happens inside of the …
